An Exciting Life: Hennepin County Medical Center
Contributed by Frances Cormican

I worked in housekeeping there. When I got there I wondered what housekeeping was. I found out. It was a great place. Eventually, I worked for the head housekeeper. I had to supply carts with all they needed for the day. They have a storehouse about three blocks away and I had to go there and take a flatbed with me. It was about four feet by two feet. When I got there, the package was about half the size of a shoebox. I could have carried it! I think I've had an exciting life. It wasn't dull. I liked working in the pit where we picked up our carts. I worked about one hour more than the others did. I never earned my salary. I worked, but not hard. I hardly worked. I liked working in the psych ward. That was my favorite. That and working in doctors' quarters and storerooms. I liked working in the storerooms. I thought it was a good place to work. I'd work there again. They asked me to come back, but I thought I was too old. Once you're over eighty, you're too old to work. I think I led a kind of exciting life.
