I really think it is fun to go to Lake Harriet, the north side of the lake, to the castle. Our family calls it the castle--it's an old-fashioned peaked roof with little flags on the top. It's very boardwalk-like. What I really like about it is that people are so open to talk to you there. It's like a little salon, people will be pleasant to each other and nod, even if they are strangers...I really like that. You don't see that in the skyways of downtown Minneapolis. It just seems like a place where people are friendly to each other. There's a snack bar, in the wintertime it's the warming house for the ice skating, there's bathrooms there, there's not real swimming right there but just to the left (if you're facing the lake) there is the band shell--same design, fun bright blue building. They used to have a little paddleboat called Queen of the Lakes, and you could just take a little ride on it. It sunk one time a couple...three...four summers ago, but that was fun for my boys to go out on.
