Discovering the Lakes: Lake Calhoun
Contributed by Lynn Fischer

My favorite place is Lake Calhoun during the summertime, the spring, and the fall. There is always so much recreation around the area, and there is always something to do around Lake Calhoun even if it is just going for a walk. I know people ice-fish in the wintertime there but I think that's crazy--I am not a real cold, cold weather person. At Lake Calhoun we play tennis, we go to the beach, we go swimming, we go for walks. It's nice because it is in the city, but it's not in the city. When we moved here we originally had a terrible apartment, in a terrible area of the city, and we were, like, we need to get out of here. By pure luck we found an apartment in this nice area. Picture that you're new to the city, you don't know much about it, and you've had this horrible crappy apartment, and then you find this apartment in this beautiful area. But what we didn't know was that the lakes were literally two blocks away. So we were exploring one day and we just walked down and it was like lake after lake after lake after lake. And we walked around Lake Calhoun but that was when we were like, wow, we have a great apartment in a great neighborhood and it was just all by chance.
