Owls, Hawks, and Eagles:

The Northside of Cedar Lake

Contributed by Marge Keyes

My favorite place is the north side of Cedar Lake and the east side, because the Cedar Lake Park Association (I think it's them), they restored the north side and they put all kinds of wild flowers and they planted trees and there's no pavement, I mean there is a bike path, but in by the lake it is all natural there's no pavement. It's always been wild and they are keeping it that way. They have planted a lot of Cedar tress and there's all sorts of birds and owls and it's beautiful. I love the work that they're doing. I started to walk there with my dog, which is illegal, but I don't have my dog anymore! But I still go there, and it's just beautiful. It is so accessible from the city but you feel like you are out in the country.

I've seen Great Horned Owls there, the wild flowers, I've seen Indigo Bunting, Blue Birds, Goldfinch, Hawks, I've seen Red Tailed Hawks there, and Bald Eagles. I've swam in the lake. I also found an arrowhead there. I've been there at all sorts of times of the day, it's just a beautiful place. And I can get there on my bike and I live in the city. I highly recommend it.
