Who I am…

Born: July 27, 1930
Birthplace: Selma, Alabama
Came to the Twin Cities in 1980

“Me and my twin were born in July, and my mother said because we was born the second of July, they would celebrate the fourth of July by our birthdate. Fireworks, yup.

“Oh I used to love to make fireballs and soak them in kerosene and light them and throw them up in the air. We’’d get out in the field and throw them up. We made them out of thread, wrapped them and sewed them ourselves.

“One time I had two grandkids who used to argue a lot, and I got tired and asked the Lord to stop them from arguing. So they went to arguing again, and then I started to say something and he locked my jaws. He said, “Don’t say nothing cause you told me to handle it.” And I couldn’t say nothing! He wouldn’t let me say nothing.

“I’m not against nobody’s faith ’cause everybody chose their own faith. So I’m not against nobody’s faith. I’ve been raised Baptist.”

My favorite place…

Favorite Place: Church

“This means a lot to me because I grew up in a church. It’s just my favorite place. This is the choir in my church now. I’ve been singing since I was a little girl. There’s no other favorite place I have except church.

“I was 11 years old at the New Year’s Eve Watchmeeting when I found the Lord. Church makes me feel closer to God, and I just love it.”
